D octors are not trained to think critically. My fellow students and I started our first year ‘pre-clinical’ training with 4 ½ days a week of lectures. The ward round was a time when the consultant showed his (rarely her in those days) colours. By the end of the training, when I finally qualified as a doctor, I was exhausted.
